Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everyone and I wish for you a healthy 2011. I've made the card above using a  freebie and a SU sentiment stamp.
Crafty Cardmakers would like you to share your first and last card. So the above is my last 2010 card and below is a card which pre-dates my blog. I think I had begun to take photos so I would remember what I had made and who I had given it to.

Five fav cards of 2010

Debby over on A Scrapjourney is asking us to share our fav five cards of 2010 - what a great idea, plus she has candy! So why not go over and join in. Above are my fav five, getting harder to choose so I think my efforts are improving.

Christmas (still!)

Well folks I had this image printed and glittered and wanted to get it on a card before I forgot about it! So really my first Christmas card for next year. It's a Jut Inked image mounted on a piece of white paper run through the swiss dots folder. Little ticket is a freebie from Miss Cutiepie.

I'm off to the hospital later for an x-ray. As soon as I get one ailment sorted I find another one, it is like I can't keep away from the hospital LOL! This time it is my knee which the chiropractor has been treating for about 18 months with little effect and the exercise she gave me to stand on one leg - uhm I haven't done too much of that!

I'm entering the card into:-
ABC Christmas Challenge - choose a past challenge -this is W for Winter Wonderland
ABC challenge - K keep it simple
Stampin for the Weekend -christmas

Purple reign

As soon as I saw this image from Delicious Doodles I wanted to use it (and that was only this morning!). My blogging buddy Kathleen at The Daisy Chain had used it and of course in my fav colour (again!), I must break out of this purple phase soon. I'm entering it into the Delicious Doodles challenge which is "Purple Reign". I am also entering it into :-
Aud's Sentiments which is for "anything goes"
C.R.A.F.T. challenge - thank you
Cute card Thursday - thank you

Blue

I am feeling a bit blue- was ill yesterday and missed an outing with a friend. I woke with a thumping head and then proceeded to violently throw up! Feeling better today but fragile.
This image won't be me! As my credit card company called to say they think my card has been "compromised" and I have had to cut it up. A new one will be here in 7 days, luckily I wasn't planning on hitting the sales in the shops as I did my craft shopping on Tuesday.
I'm entering this card into Dotties World challenge-anything goes as long as it is predominately blue, and I have also used one of their charmed digi downloads. I've added "happy day" from an SU set and the other sentiment is from "born to shop" freebie from docrafts. I'm also entering it into Crafty Catz which is "your choice".

Purple Haze

Ladybug crafts challenge are looking for a card inspired by a song title. Well purple is my fav colour and so I chose "Purple Haze" by Jimi Hendrix to inspire this New Year card. We have Winestool Niki sitting up at the top dressed all in purple - using promarkers, next to her is a chandelier courtesy of Jak Heath and at the bottom a 2011 freebie image from The Crafters Digital Art Center. The backing details are from the Debbi Moore cdrom floral fantasy.
I spent most of Christmas day in a pleasant haze due to my MIL insisting I have a large Sherry to warm me up before lunch! Then we had Martini Asti with the meal as OH was driving and MIL doesn't drink a lot you can imagine who had the rest. MIL cooked and wouldn't let me wash up so had a lovely time. Then when we got home we opened a bottle of pink champagne! You can see where the inspiration for this card came from now can't you LOL!
I'm entering it into:-
Ladybug crafts challenge-inspired by a song
Caardvarks-mono card (their last ever challenge)
I love promarkers - anything goes
Crafts and Me-anything goes

Plum and white

I've just got a six Debbi Moore cd roms, so I was having a look at what was on them and came across these gorgeous roses. They come in several colourways but as this is my favourite colour I chose to print these and the other elements from the Flower Boutique cdrom. I have added a touch of glitter which hopefully you can see better in the close up below.

When I printed these images last night I was disappointed because they looked deep pink, however, in daylight they are just what I thought they would be! Should have put them under my Ottlite then I would have known they were true to colour.
I'm entering this into Colour Create challenge which gave this photo for inspiration

I have a day off today. Got B Gas coming to service everything sometime soon (I hope). I had to go for my check up at the vertigo clinic this morning. The exercises they gave me last time paid off and I feel loads better. Apparently because I had been trying not to do movements I thought would make me dizzy, all this has done is taught my body not to want to do anything other than be in a straight position.
I must have been dizzy though because I did something I have never done before when I left the hospital. I catch a free bus from the hospital which drops me at the tram stop. There are two tram lines, one which goes to where I live and one that doesn't. I got on the wrong one-doh! Just as the line split and I thought mine was the next stop I thought nothing looked familiar! Had to get off and catch one back to where the line splits and then another one - at least I had an all day ticket. In my defence I can catch either tram line if I am going to the Park and Ride, but because I had been to the vertigo clinic I wasn't driving.  Automatic pilot as they say!

Snow much fun

Well we had a short blizzard here this afternoon at precisely the time I had to be out in it! Then it stopped and so far (fingers crossed - no snow).
I've used a bugaboo digi image for this card and coloured it with promarkers. I've added glitter to accent various parts of the image. A piece of red mirri card with a MS punch used to highlight the image. The same version but corner punch used on the corners of the card.
I'm entering this into Catch the Bug challenge - winter project with lots of sparkle and glitter (sorry it doesn't show up very well in the photo).

Moody blues

I've been asked to make a card for a lady to give to her son on the birth of his son, due on Christmas day. She said he and his wife are very modern and so to keep it simple. I do hope she is going like what I have done. The wording is what she specified she wanted on the card. So I have used two pieces of DCWV paper, mounted a piece of dotty paper punched with a MS corner punch and then a tile with a brad.
I'm entering this into "Moody blues" on Crafts and Me Challenge blog.

CAS Christmas

I had today off from work to bake cakes to take to work for my birthday which was last Saturday, put up the tree, finish my Christmas cards, do some washing take last parcels etc for overseas to the post office, and I got it all done. Now I'm exhausted and need another day off!
I've had the Stampin Up medallion stamp out again, and made this card for a man for Christmas - so no fancy bits! I'm entering it into
Kaboodle Doodles challenge- CAS Christmas
Die Cut Dreams Christmas Challenge - Christmas Carol

I also used it to make this card
I'm entering this into CES challenges -anything but a Christmas card.

Birthday bear

I've been playing with my Forever Friends cd rom and this is what I came up with. I designed the whole card in MCS and then mounted it on some pink mirri card then some patterned DP. I punched the edge of the card and added some glitter. I just love the glitter on the blusher brush the most.
It's my birthday tomorrow! Not doing a lot, just going out for lunch. With a December birthday you never know whether you will make it anywhere due to the weather.
I'm entering the card into
Crafty Catz Weekly challenge-birthday bear
Forever Friends - card in less than 45 mins

Oakley with bauble

I just love the image of Oakley. I've teamed him with DP from my stash and a sentiment that was from a decoupage kit. I've lightly inked the edges of the sentiment and added some glitter to the baubles.
I'm entering it into :-
Cards for Men challenge- xmas.
Paper Cutz challenge - use two kinds of papers and any colours

Flashback Friday 5.0

I can't believe that Amy (Tsuruta Designs)  has reached Flash Back Friday 5.0 already. The challenge this time is to post a card on which you used a particular technique for the first time. This card is from October 2009 and was the first time I had done wholesale paper piecing. Her whole outfit and hair is paper pieced. I was so proud of this card, that I actually still have it myself! Amy has a fab prize on offer, so why not give it a go.
It is our office Christmas meal tomorrow night and the pavements are like ice. I was already going to be wearing sensible flat boots, but even those slip on the ice. But look what came today

They fit over your shoes and tiny spikes give you grip. It says "not suitable for wearing with high heels" you don't say! I don't care what I look like if it means I stay upright. I got mine from QVC and they have rave reviews.

Baubles, but not as you know them!

I've had my MCS Winter Wonderland CDrom out again. This time I played in MCS with one of the bauble images and placed a free digi sentiment from Create with TLC onto it. Then added some glitter. I used pink pearlescent cardstock, that is why you can see it underneath the open card.
I'm entering this into a new challenge to me at Top Tip Tuesday-anything goes challenge.

Really pleased with how it came out, so I did it again with another of the images. I stamped the sentiment at the bottom using a rockablock,  I am definitely converted. I know, better let than never!
The DPs are by Kate Knight and were free with a craft mag this month.

Popcorn

Popcorn the bear that is. Now I have my super large rockablock I was able to stamp this image in one go, including the sentiment. I coloured him with my promarkers using slightly different shades on each of the cards. With such a big stamp I decided the way to go was with a simple mount of mirri card with those punched corners again. Once I get an idea..........!
Now I thought I had cut them both the same size but the top one the little punchout fitted over the edges but the for the bottom one it wouldn't.
I'm entering Popcorn into the challenge at Stamps R Us - which is for holiday cards.
I just found out that my JOY card was picked as one of the top three on "Keep it simple"- thanks very much, and it was featured on the Create with TLC blog.

Snow angel

I must admit I didn't really understand what a "snow angel" was, until the other day when someone put the pattern in the snow on their blog that they had left when they had done this - ah the light came on!
This is a digi from Fred she Said, I've coloured her with promarkers then simply mounted her onto green mirri card punched at the corners with one of my MS punches.
I'm entering it into By the Cute and Girly - children challenge.

Winter but not Christmas

The challenge on Bee Crafty this week is a card that is a winter scene, but not Christmas. I needed to make a male birthday card for December. Stuck for ideas I used this challenge as my basis together with Paperplay who want monochrome cards. I have never done a "winter" birthday card before but am pleased how it turned out. It is low on embellishments as it is for a man. Instead of using glitter I did a technique I saw Sheena Douglass use, which is to use glue and add embossing power, I did this to the bulrushes and parts of the tree to give some dimension. The images are all from a MCS cdrom called Winter Wonderland.
I'm entering it into:-

For a girl

I've made this card by printing a digi onto printable acetate and then using meltdust powder over the image. I've attached the acetate over a piece of white card put through the script cuttlebug folder and some glitter paper. The sentiment is from a PTI set and I used my new rockablocks to do it. I've resisted them for ages but saw Sheena Douglas using them on C&C so decided to give them a go. I bought the two largest as Sheena said they do even small stamps unlike the acrylic blocks. It also means a very large stamp Xmas Popcorn bear stamp I have, I can now use.
I'm entering this into the challenge on Paper Cutz - anything goes.

Texture

Here is my newest stamp from Crafty Individuals. I just love anything in miniature so fell for this stamp as soon as I saw it but resisted until I needed it to make up an order (!).  I've used pink embossing powder and put some pink mulberry paper behind it. Finished with some adhesive ribbon all mounted onto a Brenda Walton card base. I'm entering it into Craft Your Days Away challenge who want to see "Texture" on your card this week.
It is soooo cold here. May have to walk to work tomorrow if the snow comes down thick in the night.

Joy

The theme on the Keep it simple challenge blog is JOY. So when I saw this freebie sentiment on Create with TLC today it fitted perfectly, without a hunt through any stash.
I also saw on a blog someone who had used just white layers of card run through various cuttlebug folders. That is how this card started out, but I couldn't resist running a Rose Red inkpad from SU over the swiss dots! I colourised the sentiment in MCS and added glitter around the edges and it also fits the challenge on If the shoe fits - scrap it,  which is white with a splash of colour.
So another card for the pile, be simple if I just made loads the same, but I get bored!

Life's uncertain-eat dessert first!

Life's uncertain eat dessert first is the sentiment on this card and I just love it. I added an SU stamp with lots of different desserts just for added effect. I'm entering it into the challenge at Fab n Funky for "anything goes" this week.
My friend and I had a fantastic day yesterday. We left this at home
and got to London where it was like this

A lovely bright day with no snow. This is the Albert memorial at Kensington Gardens. We didn't really do anything we had planned apart from the afternoon tea but had a lovely time. I had never seen the memorial before and it is really magnificent. This is another shot of the inside of the roof - amazing.

We also went in the V&A and I managed to get a Christmas present for someone so that was good. Then we had a mooch around before arriving to this.....

We were so busy eating I forgot to take any more photos!

Ladybug crafts challenge

I've made this card using the sketch over on Ladybug Crafts Ink TLT challenge blog. I've used one of the Nikki stamps from Ladybug crafts. This is for a colleagues birthday and she is not really into glitz so I just put a little bit of glitter pen as steam coming out of the coffee, and used it to highlight the choc box and the floral part of the sentiment. Papers are from Basic Grey - wisteria collection.
I'm so excited as my friend and I are off for another afternoon champagne tea in London tomorrow. I just hope the snow holds off at least to let us get there!

Housework won't kill you..........

I've used a TGF stamp coloured with promarkers and a freebie image I got from (???) together with a Joanna Sheen sentiment and little feather duster.. The DP is MME and I used my MS punches around the edges and on the corners. Punched a few MS butterflies too out of the DP.
A colleague who wanted this card for their partner, said it would be perfect as their partner is always saying "if this house was dusted for fingerprints, yours would never be found on the vacuum cleaner" I thought that was sooo funny.
I'm entering it into the A Spoon Full of Sugar challenge, which this week is Anything goes.

New and old

I just got this image from Ann's blog "Love making things" - I think she is so sweet and perfect for a friend who used to be an avid knitter but now due to Parkinson's disease can no longer manage to knit. So sad, she used to knock up an arran sweater in no time and knitted countless cricket jumpers over the years.
I'm entering it into the challenge on Passion for Promarkers which is for old papers and a new digi/stamp. the papers and sentiment background are MME and were free ages ago with a magazine. The oval is pearlescent dotty paper from craftwork cards and I cut it out with my x-cut system of frames that I haven't used in ages. I didn't have a  nestie the right size and to think I was going to get rid of them the other week! I used an SU sentiment for the punched circle, they are just perfect for those small areas, so neat. The image is of course coloured with promarkers.
My fav programme of the week tonight - Turn Back Time - The High Street. Really been enjoying this series and this week it is the war years and the butcher is serving Macon - bacon made from mutton! I really enjoy history presented in this way.

Do I look like.....

The challenge on Fab n Funky is to use a neglected stamp. I've only used this Rubber Romance stamp once since I got it. I think most of my stamps are getting neglected - too many and not enough time to use them!  I thought this sentiment that I made using the PC suited it perfectly.I've also used two of my new MS punches to created the background to the sentiment. A doily I won is lightly sponged with antique linen ink, the card base is a ready made one from a Brenda Walton kit.
I'm trying to rationalise my stash at the moment and use up those odd cards that don't have packaging anymore, because there aren't too many of them left - I doubt it will really make that much of a dint!

Maybe a cupcake.........

This card was inspired by the challenge on Tuesday Morning Sketches which is Cupcakes, cupcakes, cupcakes! I've used a CC design digi, coloured with promarkers. The green die cut is from Susie at Die cut Dreams which I have punched with a MS corner punch. Then I used a nestie to cut a scalloped circle, which I have stamped with an SU stamp. Sentiment is a freebie from Create with TLC. The larger cupcake is a die cut from Susie too and I've put some glitter and a little bling on it for a cherry.

Non trad xmas colours

I've used the gingerbread man digi from Pink Gem again, but altered the colourway for the challenge at Totally Gorjuss. This week it is non traditional Christmas colours. I mounted the design on a lilac pearlescent card and added a "tile" with some silver ribbon threaded through.
I'm also entering him into Susie & Vicki's Christmas club - where " Christmas anything goes" is the challenge for this week.

Oh baby!

The challenge on Charisma Cardz challenge is for Baby cards. Here is a CAS card I've made with some Baby printed DP and then I embossed the stamped image over the top using fine detail black powder. I got this stamp in a job lot and it is not something I find that appealing - but it does have an amusing sentiment. The sentiment underneath is from my stash.

Look what I got today, Marth Stewart glitters. I have been after these for a while and when I was off on Monday they were on QVC-,I could just sit and gaze at them all day! I already have some in another set and they are soooo glittery - watch out for it appearing on my cards.

Not been blogging much this week, as the exercises for my vertigo that the hospital gave me are making me feel really yuk for most of the evening. I have to do it fairly early on as she said it wasn't a good idea to do it before bed or first thing in the morning as I may not be able to drive. I only got this card done tonight because I can have a lie in tomorrow!

Gingerbread man

Aren't these cupcakes yummy looking! They were the inspiration for my card from Cupcake Inspirations challenge.

I've used a Pink Gem digi stamp and coloured him with promarkers. I cut out the ribbon bow and heart from a second sheet of the DP and layered them up. I distressed the edges of the image using my electric pedicure set (don't ask! some of you may remember my utilising it before).
I'm also entering it into Creative Inspirations Challenge who want anything Christmassy/winter.
I've been off work today. I had to go to the hospital this morning to the balance clinic for my vertigo. I now have exercises to do from her too. So what with the ones from the chiropractor for my shoulder and now these I am going to be very busy! At least I got back early enough to have a lovely day crafting. Off to catch up with everyone's blogs now.

Remember

One of the themes for cards this month at Craftrak is Poppies. As Poppies are one of my all time favs (can you guess it from my blog background LOL!) so I have quite a few images I could use. This is a PB one and all of the images you can see are on the one stamp. I used the vintage SU wheel for the background and created "Remember" on the PC. Another blogger pointed out to me that the music is actually upside down! Wonder if PB know? Edited to say - it is not me that has put the music on upside down - the stamp is like that!
I'm entering this into Penny Black Saturday challenge - my fav things and Daring cardmakers who want to see cards for "A time to remember".
I found out today that Lisa on Mess to Magic creates a card for remembrance every year which I think is a lovely idea and one I may adopt. It was also my late Mother's birthday on 9 Nov and so it will have a double meaning if I do. Here are two more I created which aren't for challenges.
