Mystery die (no longer a mystery!)

 

I've got this die, which I think was given to me. I've had it on my to do list for ages but I don't know how to use it, so I just cut it out and then put the waste back into it. My first attempt above I managed to get the definition of the layout of the die but my further attempts below are lost due to the pattern.


Does anyone know if I've used this die correctly? I'm off to the Snippets Playground to see if anyone there knows. I used snippets for the inlays but forgot to take photos.

EDITED to say Alice has found out what the die is! It is a Concord and ninth turnabout die and cuts a dahlia. Hopefully I can figure it out and have another go!

That die is a new one on me and certainly a bit of a puzzle as to its actual purpose. I suppose it could be used to cut the petal shapes which could be built up into little flowers or used for leaves. Other than that I'm afraid it has me stumped.

If you haven't the coordinate stamp, perhaps you could make a stencil with the die and than use it?
Hope this helps.
However, your cards look great, love how you matched the colours and the patterned papers! The second one looks especially pretty!

I think you have used it brilliantly. I have that die and it matches the dahlia turnabout stamp. I have never thought to use it on its own. It is supposed to cut out some of the petals from the stamp, but as ever with turnabouts, it can be a challenge to get it lined up correctly. I might try using it on its own now. Thanks for the inspiration xx

That one had me stumped Lynn! I never ever knew there are turnaround dies - although from what Hilary said in the comments it looks as if the die isn't necessarily a turnaround but the matching stamp is. Alice is like a little detective! I agree with others, I like your snippets cards just as they are anyhow!

Me again Lynn. I haven't followed other's links but went to Concord & 9th and there's a video - just type dahlia into the search bar. I gave up as it was pretty tedious but towards the end of the video demo the guy was getting ready to show how to use your die, on it's own - to cut a full dahlia. Got a glimpse of the result and it does have possibilities for sure!
