Painted grape hyacinths

I had a little snippet of black card left over from cutting down a piece of A4. I folded it in half to make a little card and then I had a watercolour snippet which was just the right size to fit. I've used a technique that I've been meaning to try for ages and that is painting with cotton buds (Q tips to those outside the UK).

I used watercolour paint and dabbed the end of the bud into it and then simply made a triangular shape to resemble grape hyacinths. I then used different shades of purples repeating the process. I finished by painting the leaves and added a foiled sentiment.

I don't think I will be trying this technique again. On Instagram when I saw this being done they had bound together the buds into the triangular shape and made it look so easy. I couldn't get my buds to stay together so ended up using them individually. I didn't really waste the buds either as I had managed to tip a whole carton onto the floor, and then didn't want to use them for anything skin related. Now I am not sure what to do with the rest, although I do use them for cleaning hard to reach areas.

I'm off to the Snippets Playground with this tiny make.

I like the effect you have created with those buds, but share your frustration at spilling them all over the floor. I am ashamed to say that I think I would pick them up and use them as normal! Love your little painting, it looks great on the black background xx

Hi Lynn
I think you have done a fabulous job and love the colours.
There are always cotton buds to be found under my sinks .. .. I use them for cleaning in the plughole and overflow.
Love and hugs
Jules xoxo

Great technique for the hyacinths Lynn, watercolour images always look so artistic. I’m sure you’ll get through the cotton buds cleaning hard to reach places … I also use them for tidying up my toe nail polish which I guess is ok even when they’ve been all over the floor x
