LIM week 151 - Merry Christmas everyone

I've been away a lot with work so not been able to craft. However today is a craft day for me (and wrapping!). I decided to enter the Less is More challenge, where this week you can chose any previous challenge. I've gone with week 134 - washi tape and used these three SU tapes with a SU sentiment.

The fire alarm went off at 11.50pm at  the Holiday Inn in Plymouth were I was staying one night last week  - very surreal experience as by the time we all got down the stairs the foyer had people from a function in black ties etc drinking champers, meanwhile I stood there in my nightie with my coat on. No explanation was given, the alarm stopped and we all went back to our rooms. The next day in a fog from disrupted sleep I left my sonic toothbrush behind. I rang and they had it and said they would post it to me. It arrived this morning and it cost them £4.40 to return it to me which as it was my own fault I think was really good of them.

I leave you with this card to express my wish for you all this Christmas and or 2014.

mid month PB & More reminder - Merry Christmas - traditional colours

This is the mid month reminder for the last challenge of the year over on Penny Black & More, we would love to see your traditional colours Christmas cards. There are some fabulous prizes on offer as always and maybe you need that one last card to make..............
For my DT card I used the sentiment from Penny Black PB3243 the most.... and the image stamp is from Flonz. I coloured the ladies with promarkers in traditional colours and added lots of sparkle to their dresses so they truly look like they are in the festive season. I added a die cut border and a die cut sentiment. The background DP I  have had for ages and it seemed to fit nicely with the image.

Free and easy at Stamping Sensations

I've kept this Christmas card fairly CAS. I used Lavina mistletoe stamp and embossed with verdigris powder and then using TH pearl drops put the berries on. It's very pretty IRL.
I'd like to enter this into the challenge on Stamping Sensations which this month is free and easy.

Traditional Christmas colours at Penny Black & More December challenge

Well the big day is getting closer now and also the importance for making those last minute (or just starting!) Christmas cards. With that in mind the challenge on Penny Black & More this month is Traditional Christmas colours. I've chosen red and green with a touch of gold for my DT card. The papers down the edge are ones I won in a challenge and I have been wanting to use them for ages, simple but I think effective down the side of the card.
I used PB 4277K Christmas Gorgeous and "From me to you" sentiment from Flonz,  the Merry Christmas was free with a magazine. I heat embossed the Merry Christmas, adding a little "snow" and coloured her with pormarkers.
Myself andmy teamies are all looking forward to your entries this month. Please do remember no digis and stamping must be the focal point of the card. However, you can use any make of stamp you wish to.

LIM week 148 - sparkle

The choice of guest designer on Less is More is absolutely inspired this week, it's Gillian from made with sparkle - perfect. For my first card I've used my favourite SU product at the moment, the ornament punch with some of the SU glitter card and a DP. I used a glue pen to draw the cords and then added glitter, stamped the sentiment with Martha Stewart glue pad and added more glitter - sparkle!
For this next card, I came across some acetate sheets that are pre glittered  whilst I was looking for the neglected glue stamp pad. So I have simply cut one out and added to the card, sentiment same technique as before.

The cards look better IRL - tried to take this under my ottlite.
I've added this close up as I can't really capture the wonderful sparkle from a distance.
I went to the dogs last night for a hen party - I've never been before and we had a great evening. A lovely meal and bets taken for as whilst we sat and ate. I wasn't a big gambler. I took £1 out of my purse at the beginning of the evening with the intention of getting more, but I kept winning! Not big  amounts - but I never got anymore money out and went home £3.80 up!

F is for........@ CD Sunday

I've not had chance to join in with CD Sunday the past few weeks, so when I saw this week's  challenge fitted my current card making plans I was pleased. F is for - fun in this case, as I think they look like they are having fun. The red DP is free with a magazine, the other elements are all from CC Christmas with Barkley cdrom. I then used a stamp to put "Grandson" over the sentiment banner. The red oval is actually mirri card, but i can't get the lighting right in the winter for it show properly.

LIM week 147 - Christmas but use a bird

The challenge on Less is More this week is for a Christmas card but with a bird on it. Well a penguin is a bird so I thought I would steer away from the traditional robin and use this image from Pink Petticoat instead. The first one uses the image with a jar stamped onto Hunkydory snowfall acetate and the second one I printed and then stamped the jar over the top. The sentiments provided with the jar do not include Christmas and it was too large a word to write in  so I had to put "Xmas" apologies to those who don't like the use of the word!

Hello Kitty Movember

I don't usually do cards with moustaches, but I love Hello Kitty and when I saw this free SVG file, I couldn't resist. I've cut all the elements on my silhouette from vinyl apart from the base which is black card. The sentiment was computer generated. I then added some white dots onto the bow.

LIM week 146 - use DP in a CAS way

I haven't played at Less Is More for a few weeks as I have been travelling a lot with work and been too tired too craft at the weekend. This weekend we went for a special treat - a stay at The Savoy Hotel in London. I won a red letter day experience and decided to spend it on a stay at The Savoy.

It was a truly memorable experience, even checking in was like something out of The Wedding Planner, with the guy discreetly asking for my reservation as soon as we walked through the door, by using his concealed earpiece! Then showing us around the hotel and then to our room, no waiting in a queue! We had afternoon tea in the Thames Foyer and then in the evening we went to see the Beatles musical "Let It Be" - just next door! which was a wonderful experience too. Sunday we went to Somerset House and then we went on for a tour of the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel - where we were told there is a suite at £8,000 a night!!!!!!  I was lucky enough to tour in 2004 before it was renovated, to see the difference was amazing.

Anyway, onto my card. I fell in love with the SU punch and bought the embossing folder and stamps too. For this card I used the embossing folder and punched from some SU Christmas papers. I mounted every other ornament on foam pads, so some are flat and some raised up.  Adding some SU twine and a freebie stamped sentiment.
Edited to add I totally forgot I wanted to take this card to Pixies crafty snippets playground #99 as I used snippets for the punched shapes.

Mid month reminder for Penny Black & More challenge

This is a reminder of our challenge this month on Penny Black & More for "anything goes". We have as always lots of wonderful prizes and would love to see you join in, you can use any make of stamp - but just remember we don't allow digis.
For my card I have used the same concept as my last DT card for the challenge but used Critter party set this time with the film strip from visible images. I then had one last play with this....

Blue and white Christmas

The challenge on Winter Wonderland this week is for a blue and white Christmas card. I've used some silk art card and cut a circle mask over which I brayed various blue inks, I then used a Clarity image stamp and a sentiment from a free magazine set. I then masked the centre and brayed over with lighter blue inks. Then I used a Lavina stamp and embossed around the circle added some liquid pearls, Finally I've used a MS punch on the corners. I achieved this earlier this evening before..........
I think I might have a black eye in the morning! I was trying to get to a cupboard above the bed and managed to smack up and into it with my glasses on. Luckily my glasses aren't broken but I feel very shaken and stupid!

Anything goes at Penny Black & More for November

We are having "anything goes" as the theme again this month at Penny Black & More, as so many of you seemed to enjoy it.
For my DT card I've taken the PB London stamp and a film strip stamp from Visible Images to do a film strip of London. If you look back in my blog you will see I went to the Houses of Parliament recently and it was raining, so this could almost me a film strip of my trip. I randomly stamped the sentiment from the PB wishes set for the background.
Do come along and join in wiht us this month. You don't have to use a Penny Black stamp to win a prize but please don't use digis or you won't be eligible to enter. Please also make stamping the focal point of your card as we are a stamping challenge.

October Rudolph day

Just sharing a Christmas card with you for Rudolph Day over on Sarn's blog. The DP and sentiment panel is a free download from Crafters Companion. I then used my new snowman die to cut snowmen in blue and silver mirri with a red mirri scarf. The stamped sentiment is also from crafts companion. I added a little bit of glitter snow to the bases of the snowmen.

LIM week 143 - string or twine

Well I have had such a busy day today and managed to get my Less is More challenge card done - hoorah! When I saw the challenge was twine I immediately thought of the set of lovely coloured american crafts twine I bought earlier in the year. Of course any excuse to bring a challenge around to fashion and I am there.  I had a flash back to a vintage Valentino dress I saw in the exhibition in March. Where pieces of cord had been wrapped in silk and stitched onto a dress covering it in downward piping. I can't find a photo and you couldn't take any in the exhibition so you will just have to imagine it. stitched by hand I remember thinking I would not have the patience to make it.
So, this is my take on it.  I used one of the Julie Nutting doll stamps, stamped it and then glued two colours of twine onto the image along the fold lines. I then cut with a spellbinder distressed edges die. Adding the sentiment and Eiffel tower from a stamp and die set by Hero Arts/Sizzix.

Fox and friends @ CD Sunday

The challenge on CD Sunday this week is Fox and friends. I only just noticed the friends bit and this fox has no friends -  sorry. I have no stamps I can think of with foxes and no cdroms, until today when my new Country diary of an Edwardian Lady arrived courtesy of CC at a great price of 9.50 for inspire club members and a free stamp! I was going to buy this cd back when it was released but could not justify the price, so glad I waited.
So, I thought there must be a fox on here somewhere, and just when I had given up I found one.I printed a backing paper from the cdrom too and cut two labels from it to mount the images and then finished with a tattered lace ivy die.

London, New York

If you've been here recently you may think this card looks familiar. I did one with the San Francisco stamp the other day and thought I would try it out again with the London stamp. This card is for a work colleague who is leaving our Croydon office to work in central London, so I thought it fitting.
I then tried a different approach and overstamped with a flag from Inkylicious and part of a keep calm stamp. I then embossed the London stamp in blue powder.

Finally I used the New York stamp and then added a "happy birthday" from the PB wishes set.

Sunday, 20 October 2013

I've used one of the new Clarity tree stamps that come in two parts for this card, which is for this week's Less Is More challenge of trees. I put a mask over the card to form the aperture and used ink dusters through it. I then removed the mask and for the lower part took the landscape outside of the frame. Adding birds and a sentiment from inkylicious and a fence from Sheena Douglass.

mid month reminder for Penny Black & More

Time to remind you about our challenge on Penny Black & More which this month is "anything goes" so it couldn't be simpler and you can use any stamp, just no digis please. Once again we have some fabulous prizes on offer and of course the chance to be a GDT for a month.
For my DT card I have used PB San Francisco stamp and the sentiment is from Critters Party. I stamped the image in sepia versamark over a brayered background created with a mask from Clever Cuts. I love this stamp as it reminds of my time in San Francisco earlier this year.

Butterfly @ CD Sunday

The challenge on cd Sunday this week is Butterflies. I've used a mix of them. First from the MCS cdrom Young at Heart, which is really a childrens cdrom but I think this could be for any age. The backing papers and images are from this cdrom. Then I used my butterfly TH die, which I ran through some ink on my mat and then stamped over with the swirl above the quote. I also added a butterfly from a pack I bought ages ago from craftwork cards. The quote is from a Creative expressions stamp set.

LIM week 141 Witches & layer

The challenge on Less is More this week is witches and wizards (and monsters) but it has to be one layer. I got this digi free from Tiddly Inks a few weeks ago and the sentiment comes courtesy of one of my fellow DT members who used it when she made her card with this image.I took the image into MCS and used the text effect to "bend" the sentiment to fit around the image. I've coloured with promarkers and then added some glitter to her wand and shimmer to the "Birthday" and around the hem of her dress.
We've had a wonderful time in London and this is where we were on Friday evening.....

the House of Lords. I had an invite through my Alumni to a drinks reception and tour.
As our tour guide informed us:- no chewing, eating, drinking or sitting down or use of mobiles allowed! It was so tempting when we got inside to sit down as we stood between the rows of seats, even though we had been told not to I had the most awful natural urge to do so - but managed to overcome it! We weren't allowed to take pictures either, so this picture is courtesy of the internet. We also went into the House of Commons and it all seemed so much smaller than when you see it on the TV.
Yesterday we went to the Sir John Soane museum which I have walked past many times on my way to work when our HO was just across the park. I finally got around to paying a visit. But again no photos, you even have to put your bag into a plastic bag they provide.

It is crammed with so many things to see.Well worth it if you haven't been - and unlike most things these days it is free!

Anything goes at Penny Black & More this month

Good morning everyone and welcome to another challenge at Penny Black & More @ Allsorts, this month the challenge is "anything goes" - so nice and simple and you don't have to use a PB stamp to enter but no digis please.
For my DT card I've used a stamp I had trouble tracking down - "Whispers". I really wanted to have a go at paper piecing with it and I'm not disappointed in the results. I've used it with a couple of Pink Petticoat papers and a little piece of striped washi tape. The sentiment is from the PB set Lace delight.
Thanks for looking and I look forward to seeing what you do this month for the challenge. Lots of lovely inspiration as always from my talented teamies.

LIM week 140 - christmas white on white

I got my housework done early this morning and then had a lovely indulgent afternoon tea with a friend at The Lace Market Hotel - and very nice it was too, especially as I had a coupon for two for the price of one! So, onto my card for the white on white Christmas challenge on Less is More. I've used the memory box die country landscape and then a couple of embossing folders. Finally cutting a frame with two nesties. The sentiment is from the new Crafters Companion Snowman set. Following on from Jen using grey for her stamping I used a momento London fog inkpad.
Before I go I have to share what I still think is an outrageous overcharging experience I had early this week. Myself and two colleagues were away on business and dining in the hotel. We all decided on the cheeseboard for dessert. The amount of cheese was fantastic - a meager amount of celery some grapes and onion relish. There were about 6 biscuits, so as you can imagine we ran out of biscuits for our cheese. We were pondering asking for more biscuits when the Manager appeared and said "Oh ladies, I can see you need more biscuits, would you like some"? So we all thanked him and he returned with one plate with 6 biscuits on it and said "do you want anymore" - so being polite we said no it was fine. We made do with the biscuits and to be honest we were all full. The bill came and there was "fat fries £3.95" which none of us had ordered or had. So we queried the bill and were told that was the charge for the extra biscuits we had!!!! Needless to say we had the charge removed from the bill. That makes a single biscuit 65p..................

1950s @ CD Sunday

Only just made it for the CD Sunday challenge this week. I have been away with work and so not had much time to craft this week.
I was going to use the MCS fab glam 1950s cdrom as I love that cd, but instead decided to break out Parisian Chic by Card plus creations for the main image. The papers are from Pink petticoat and I hope Liz doens't mind, but I took them into MCS and recoloured from the original yellows to this blue colour. I used my newest die that I got at a fab price in the sale from Sticky Tiger - the TH butterflies on the edge and then ran them through an embossing folder and applied some inks.

LIM week 139 sketch #10

I've taken a break from the lovely sunshine to post my card for the challenge on Less is More this week which is a sketch.
I've used a Charles R McIntosh style chocolate baroque stamp, coloured with promarkers and cut out with a nestie. To complement the image I used Hill House font and cut with a nestie and edged both items with a black distress marker to lift them from the card.
Well I keep meaning to get out more of my warmer clothes and put others way, but the way the weather keeps changing it is lucky I kept my summer clothes out, sitting in a cotton dress today it is so warm. Hope everyone else has sunshine.

My fav flower (in case you hadn't noticed!)

ok - so you must have noticed by now that the Poppy is my fav flower LOL! I am running out of headings as I post so many poppy cards. I have to warn you there will be many more to come as I have fallen totally for all the Hunkydory poppy range launched today,  including the parchment.
So this card uses snippets from two papers I used on Monday's poppy card. This time I have heat embossed with red powder the hero arts poppy stamp. I heated it from underneath so it is lovely and glossy IRL. The sentiment is from a new Forever Friends stamp set I got with lots of useful and sytlised greetings.
My sample of Baileys with chocolate turned up and I have just sampled the lot! Still a bit sicky for my liking even with chocolate. Didn't stop me getting extremely squiffy on the stuff one year as I was too polite to say I didn't really like it.
This card is for the poppy challenge on Stamping Sensations and my third entry for Pixies Crafty Snippets Playground #91 as I would really like to win the droplet stamp.

Snow People @ CD Sunday

The challenge on CD Sunday this week is "Snow people". I've used CC Snowman and the Snowdog cdrom and also the new snowdog die they brought out last week, just had to use him. I cut him out from the same paper as the background, but not sure that was a good idea now! I also paper pieced his ears from the snippet box, so I am entering this into Pixies Crafty Snippets Playground #91.
I'm also entering into Sarn's Rudolph challenge for this month.
I'mhaving a busy week and had to go to London on Tuesday with work, up for the 6.28am train and in London for 8.30 - so hit all the commuters on the tube - squeeze hour! Glad I finally got around to making this card.

Stylised poppy

The challenge over at Stamping Sensations this month is Poppies, which as most people know is one of my favourite flowers. So here I am again with a new Poppy stamp - although maybe stylised, from Joffy. The papers I think were freebies and the other half of the card I used the Anna Griffin poppy embossing folder for and then brushed TH festive berries over.
I found out today that Hunkydory are having a Poppy themed pack on C&C on Friday - although i don't generally go for pre printed packs, this one may be hard to resist (and use!).

Dusk to dawn

When I saw the tutorial on Sally's blog I wanted to have a go at this effect, however, I am a long way off being as good as Sally - she made it look so easy! I didn't buy all the colours she used, just the grape jelly and then utilized what I had. I used a Clarity tree but the birds are from Inkylicious set and the poem is the same as yesterday's card, but it just filled the space in the right way!
I'd also like to enter this card into the Craft a Scene challenge - dusk to dawn.

LIM week 138 - felt

When I saw the challenge on Less is More this week is felt or fabric, I knew this was the opportunity I had been looking for to use some felt flowers I have. I never seem to think of them when I make a card - so for the first card I used an embossing folder and stamped a verse with an olive archival inkpad. I used a versamark embossing pen to then coat the image with perfect pearls. Adding a felt flower and another thing I am trying to use - these pearlised gems.
I have to admit the second card was born out of the need to use more of these flowers! As the first card only got rid of one LOL!
I used the embossing folder tied together, and successfully married up the pattern, so a first there. The used some more of the felt flowers and mounted them onto a spellbinder blossom die cut. I then used part of a freebie stamp for the sentiment.

Little boys @ CD Sunday

Well this is the last day of my week away from work. I haven't got all the things done I wanted to! Including this card, which I began on Wednesday. I sorted out contender cdroms for images - including MCS shop fronts which I always think has a toy shop - and it hasn't! I finally decided on Popcorn the Bear from Crafters Companion and also some background paper from MCS The collectors edition -kid's. I don't know if it was the switching between cds (I've done it before) but MCS crashed twice on me loosing my design. So in the end I went back to just using Popcorn, but was keen on only one of the background papers, so I took the image into MCS - glutton for punishment, and tiled the duck and the cricket bales to make the borders.
So, eventually here is my entry for little boys at CD Sunday this week. Off to do some external painting now as it seems today it isn't going to rain.

Frugal Christmas card

The Crafty Laydee is running a Frugal Christmas card competition. You need to make a card from something not usually meant for Christmas. I thought it would be fun to "Christmas" the Uptown stamps from PB. I paper pieced the shop using Kate Knight Christmas papers and added some snowfall acetate over the front. I then added snow, glitter and frost to all the houses. Some TH tinsel twine finishes it off with CC Christmas sentiments. I added one to the shop as a "shop sign".
I got my internet upgraded yesterday and now I am flying! So hopefully back to more commenting as it was getting so slow before it felt like dial up LOL!

mid month reminder for Penny Black & More @ Allsorts

The weather is definitely changing now and so here is my second autumnal DT card for Penny Black & More. This time I followed the optional sketch provided. Instead of completely colouring hedgie in I used some flocking, in brown and pink for a change. Although the flowers look red I did in fact use all the promarker shades of peaches/oranges! The ribbon was a freebie with my order from The Artists trading Post - isn't it lovely.
Thanks for looking and I hope to see you over at the challenge.
By the way - I used a new app called Vine to show how I created this card - take a look, my first attempt at this

Tuesday, 17 September 2013

celebrate the season

The challenge over on Simon Says is "emboss". I've used a pink petticoate digi and stripped papers, colouring with promarkers and adding a little red liquid pearl for the berries. The background is embossed with snowflakes.
I'm upgrading my internet access this afternoon and so will be without the internet - hopefully it comes back ok!

LIM - week 137 OLC - Get well soon

Less is More want to get well cards this week. See those three little letters in the blog post header OLC? One Layer Card - yes this is OLC but this is how it started.
I had this little stamp, bit boring on its own for OLC. So I thought and thought and came up with this.

I was so proud of find some snippets that were plaster colour too! But, it is not OLC. So I used the clearlybesotted die I had set my heart on using as a template and drew around it. Used the sentiment part of the stamp and then wrote the rest in by hand. I am entering this second card into the Pixies Crafty Snippets Playground #90. and 365 cards where I haven't played in ages and ages but I find they want cards with a speech bubble!.

Those of you who visit regularly will know how much I love poppies. We went away for the weekend and look at the room we got.
and then I found this new doormat

Shop 'til you drop @ CD Sunday

It's shop til you drop at CD Sunday this week. I love shops and also have the MCS shopfronts cdrom, but went with CC Frou Frou cdrom for my cards. Yes there are two as I couldn't help myself!
All the elements on the first one are from the cd rom. I was going to use the stamp of the image on the second one, but found it was going to be too big, so instead I used MCS to crop her image and place in the frame. The stamped sentiment is from the rubber stamp set.
Talking of CC have you seen the Makey Bakey Mice cdrom set which launches tomorrow? Got to get it looks fab and luckily for me I have a little bit of credit in my C&C account to help out!
